Cenote Hubiku: All Yucatán has to offer in one place

Yucatán is well known for its beautiful cenotes. There is no doubt that they are one of the most attractive sites to see as a tourist. With thousands of cenotes to visit, Hubiku is certainly the most stunning and incredibly gorgeous as it is the largest one in all of Yucatán, offering an entire wow-experience to every person who visits.

“What people love about Hubiku is the impression they first get when they come in here. The color of the water, the gardens, the beauty, and mainly the size of the cenote is something that impacts them first hand,” says the manager of Hubiku, Efraín Moroni Suaste.

The word Hubiku comes from the Mayan language and translates to “iguana’s nest”. It was named like this since you are sure to find iguanas strolling all over the gardens. It’s had this name since 1840 when the cenote was first registered by a family named Sanchez. This cenote is filled with a variety of delightful activities you can enjoy as a family, a couple, or with friends. Some activities include fine-dining, a visit to the Mayan Village, and a tour of the tequila museum.

The complete experience

The restaurant is the biggest one in all the state, with a capacity of 1,000 people. Here you can treat yourself to all of Yucatán’s famous dishes such as cochinita pibil (pork), poc chuc (meat), fajitas, a variety of pastas, lime soup, chilaquiles, and much more. There’s even a chicken pibil option for those who don’t eat pork.

Inside the Mayan Village, you can learn how the cochinita pibil is cooked, and even sample some of their handmade tortillas and organic honey.

If you’re a fan of tequila, and it’s one of the reasons you love Mexico, you can’t miss out on the Tequila Museum. Here you can learn about the production process and of course have a taste of their delicious flavors such as: cocoa, cappuccino, chocolate, strawberry, mint, kiwi, almond and many more. These tasty tequilas are packed in handmade bottles and are all hand-labeled, offering a friendly and personal touch to all who purchase and support their business.

Their packages include all of these services as well as parking, showers, and rest areas where you can lie down in their comfortable hammocks.

Hubiku specializes in making every Mexican holiday a day to enjoy and learn about the beautiful Mexican culture, which is why every special date they strive to make it the absolute best. On Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, you will find thematic decorations scattered all around, and traditional foods to eat like pan de muerto. At the Mayan Village visitors can learn about the many traditions of this day. They also offer a tour of the special altars, a tasting of candies, and a market that sells everything related to this holiday honoring the dead.

Last but not least, you can also find exquisite Mexican handcrafts of all kinds such as jade, bone, clay, and take them with you as a lovely souvenir. The most creative ones are the charms with Mayan hieroglyphics which you can get your initials engraved on. You may also want to choose the Mayan calendar and have a special date engraved with Mayan hieroglyphics.

What makes it special

This project was initially created by the Martinez family ten years ago, who wanted to make this a place where they could offer everything Yucatán has, from the beauty of its nature, famous dishes, and all of Mayan culture into one special place.
For years, Hubiku has been a wonderful vacation spot where families indulge themselves in all this impressive cenote has to offer. “People have come here twenty, fifty times, and they keep coming back. We are always at the forefront when most places aren’t. We give our visitors what they want,” shares Suaste.
Suaste found his love of tourism when he began running a hotel in Cancún. During that time, the opportunity to run Cenote Hubiku presented itself, and he decided he would take it. Currently, there are 100 staff members (including himself) working at Hubiku.
This staff has been the same for over 10 years; they all see themselves as a family and are very content with what Hubiku has become.
“This cenote is exceptional, people always give us such nice feedback. It’s very surprising, especially nowadays where there is a lot of negativity going around, meaning that all our hard work has really paid off. Even other cenotes have wanted to copy our idea, it’s very gratifying to know we’ve caused this impact”, concluded Suaste.
